So it was that the tables turned on Wall Street – and a hedge fund star suddenly found himself at the mercy of the day-trading Reddit bros who have become one of the most powerful, if improbable, forces in the stock market today. Before long, veryforestgreen weighed in: “Melvin Capital New Short Attack.” Then, greekgod1990: “Melvin vs WSB! And GME to the moon.” “GME Squeeze and the demise of Melvin Capital,” wrote the user, Stonksflyingup, referring to stock ticker of GameStop Corp. It feels like this app hired EA Sports to manage their updates with all the blatant money-hungry changes that have been made just this year alone. The first sign of trouble for hedge fund wunderkind Gabe Plotkin came in late October: A poster on Reddit’s popular wallstreetbets forum was taking aim at his wildly successful investment firm. A long time ago, this app was true to its mission, but the present one is a former shadow of itself. Instead, we have “activities” that only allow you the chance to earn more useless sweat coins. There are no longer any charity walk fundraisers. There isn't a single physical item that can be bought with sweat coins anymore. We are constantly being pushed to watch ads or subscribe to their premium service to earn more sweat coins, and for what? The shop is flooded with coupons and blatant selling out to whichever brand pays them more money. Instead, we have an app only focused on making money. Come the present day, all of these once great motivators are gone. A year or so later, I was able to sign up for charity fundraisers where my steps could raise money for charity, motivating me to walk even more. Earning sweat coins that could be traded in for items and money motivated me to walk more and more. It was an app that set out to encourage people to walk and improve themselves. When I first downloaded Sweatcoin several years ago, it was amazing. It’s really frustrating to feel like the app made so much off users without giving really anything back. If this isn’t bad enough, the app removed all the midrange items and 8000 coins feels as useful as 10 - which could get you some garbage which is clearly just an advertisement stunt benefiting the advertiser more than the user. The auctions are literal BS because there’s so little of them running and people keep earning more and more coins, thus the prizes will always be out of reach for 99.9% of users because the bids are going to keep climbing from here on out (likely from 20k to 30k to 40k etc for the same items). Well, wouldn’t you know that now those prizes are gone and have been replaced with auctions as I and many other longtime users are beginning to reach that threshold. I knew it was going to take awhile, but I was excited that in a few years time I’d get a huge prize in the 10-20k coin range such as the Disney trip or a $1000 giftcard. I downloaded the app in 2017 and have just over 8K coins today. If the trade partner declines that request, then do NOT trade with them. Do not trade large quantities – when in doubt trade a little at a time. Keep ALL Buying/Selling threads in the stickied post!.
